EDUCATION AND LABELING

Informing Healthy Choices

  • The Clear On Calories Initiative was launched in 2010 to support First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" anti-obesity campaign. By voluntarily placing calorie labels on every bottle, can and pack, beverage companies provided the information consumers need to make a choice that’s right for them.
  • The Calories Count Vending Program is an industry partnership designed to help consumers make informed choices before the point of purchase.
  • With respect to energy drinks, beverage companies continue to take voluntary steps such as listing caffeine content on product labels and displaying advisory statements to inform consumers.

These, along with other labeling practices, are an important means of giving consumers the knowledge to make educated choices as part of an active, balanced lifestyle.
