Embrace Liquid Health

As important as the air we breathe, hydrating our bodies is essential. Fluids—coming from both beverages and foods—are critical to replenishing what we lose naturally each and every day. When we perspire. When we exhale. Fluids are instrumental to regulating our body temperature, delivering nutrients to our cells, and more.

Fortunately, we have an unprecedented number of beverage options to stay hydrated and balanced. These include waters (flavored and unflavored), sports drinks, teas, and juice, among others.

How Much is Enough?

The fluid we take in from food and beverages all contribute to hydration. Specifically, The Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences (IOM) recommends:

  • For adult men and women, 11 – 16 cups of total fluids per day;
  • For children and adolescents, 9 – 14 cups per day;
  • Active individuals and the elderly, however, may need to consume more than these guidelines recommend.

Drawing on an array of beverage and food sources available in the marketplace today, it’s easy to stay hydrated and balanced.
